The Marikina Sapatos Festival 2011 had a Cosplay Event integrated in their program. It was held last November 16 and it was the first cosplay I attended in the middle of the week, Wednesday (I hope more cosplay events will be held on midweeks hehe). I wasn’t expecting to meet a lot of cosplayers since schooldays are still up and most have work, but to my surprise, there are plenty of good cosplayers who went there to showcase their new sets. There were even more Filipino cosplayers than the audience haha!
The event was all good and brief, and it was nice to see some new faces. Especially the group of Monster Hunter cosplayers who really made my day since I also have a set for that game, sadly I wasn’t wearing it at that time though. One of them, wearing the fatalis set (wearing the black armor below), Tel Batiller, even won the best female cosplay category.
The grand champion was a female child-mech wearing a voltron set. She was really adorable, and I think she deserves the win. The chibi genre though shouldn’t have been mixed with the other categories, because it’s definitely unfair? >:)
With all this, I can only conclude that the Filipino cosplayers are really getting better in their craftsmanship. We even won at the AFA Regional Cosplay Competition this year, 2011 which really proves that Filipinos can really compete worldwide.
